Beiteddine Palace (Lebanon)

Weather…

The Beiteddine Palace, built in the early 19th century by Emir Bashir Shihab II, is one of the most beautiful surviving examples of classical Lebanese architecture. Construction took thirty years, involving Italian and Damascene craftsmen, resulting in a unique blend of Arab, Andalusian, and European styles. The complex is built around three main courtyards: the outer courtyard was a public gathering place, the middle courtyard was for officials, and the inner courtyard housed the harem and the emir's private residence. The walls are decorated with intricate wood carvings, colorful geometric marble mosaics, and arabesques. After the fall of the Ottoman Empire, it served as a French administrative center, and in 1943 it became the summer residence of the president of independent Lebanon. The complex now houses museums of weapons, jewelry, and Byzantine mosaics. In summer, the palace gardens host the Beiteddine Art Festival.
