Batroun

Batroun, situated on the Mediterranean coast, is one of the oldest and most spirited coastal cities in northern Lebanon. The settlement's name derives from the Greek word Botrys (bunch of grapes). Founded by the Phoenicians in antiquity, the city played an important role in ancient maritime trade. The most famous historical landmark is the ancient Phoenician sea wall, a 225-meter-long stone structure that originally protected the coast and demarcated a maritime quarry. The characterful old town features cobblestone streets, sandstone houses, and landmarks like the Maronite St. Stephen's Cathedral and the Greek Orthodox St. George Church. Today, Batroun is a premier tourist destination, well known for its excellent surfing beaches, active nightlife, and seafood restaurants. The city also serves as the hub for one of Lebanon's key wine-producing regions, featuring numerous boutique wineries. The traditional Batroun lemonade, made with a distinct local recipe, is famous across the entire country.
