Xe Bang Fai River (Laos)

Weather…

The Xe Bang Fai River originates in the rugged Annamite Range along the Laos-Vietnam border, carving its way through Khammouane Province before finally merging with the Mekong River. Geologically, it is a magnificent waterway, having eroded the vast limestone karst landscapes of central Laos over millennia to create spectacular subterranean networks. The undisputed crown jewel of its course is the Xe Bang Fai River Cave (Tham Khoun Xe) located within Hin Namno National Park. At this point, the river flows entirely underground for over 15 kilometers through one of the largest active cave passages on Earth, with caverns reaching up to 120 meters high and 200 meters wide. Above ground, the river remains essential to rural villages for irrigating rice paddies and fishing.
