Kong Lor Cave (Laos)

Weather…

Kong Lor Cave, also known as Tham Kong Lo, is a spectacular limestone river cave located in the Phou Hin Bun National Protected Area in Khammouane Province. It is renowned for the Nam Hin Bun River, which flows through the entire 7.5-kilometer length of the cave system, creating a vast subterranean passage. In some sections, the cave ceilings soar to 90 meters high, and the limestone walls spread 30 meters wide, creating immense underground chambers. Visitors explore the cave in small motorized longtail boats, navigating the pitch-black waterway guided only by headlamps. A central gallery within the cave allows visitors to walk among impressive stalactites and stalagmites, showcasing complex karst formations. The cave also features an 'emerald pool' where the water takes on a brilliant turquoise hue. Beyond its natural grandeur, Kong Lor serves as an essential transport route for local villagers moving goods between remote valleys on either side of the karst mountain range.
