Teatro Olimpico (Italy)

Weather…

The Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza is the first permanent covered theater of the modern era and the final masterpiece of Andrea Palladio. Construction started in 1580 and was completed by Vincenzo Scamozzi following Palladio's death. It opened in 1585 with a performance of Sophocles' Oedipus Rex. The theater's most striking feature is Scamozzi's permanent stage set, depicting the seven streets of Thebes through an extraordinary forced perspective. Although it creates the illusion of marble, the structure is primarily built from wood and plaster. The seating area is arranged as an ancient Roman amphitheater, embodying the humanist ideals of the Renaissance. Since 1994, it has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage list and remains an active venue for concerts and theatrical performances.
