Takht-e Soleyman
Takht-e Soleyman, translated as "Throne of Solomon", is a mystic site of profound archaeological importance in northwestern Iran, clustered around a volcanic crater lake fed by thermal springs. During the Sassanid period (3rd to 7th centuries AD), this remote location became the most important spiritual center of Zoroastrianism, the state religion at the time. Here burned Adur Gushnasp, the sacred fire of Persian kings and warriors. The complex, which included grandiose fire temples and royal palaces, was surrounded by a massive circular wall reinforced with 38 towers. After the Islamic conquest and subsequent Mongol attacks, the complex fell into ruin, but its ancient aura endures.
