Sheikh Safi al-din Shrine (Iran)

Weather…

The Mausoleum of Sheikh Safi al-Din in the city of Ardabil is a splendid architectural ensemble that embodies the spiritual and artistic essence of the Safavid dynasty. Sheikh Safi was the revered founder of the Safaviyya Sufi order, from which one of the most powerful Iranian dynasties would later rise. Construction of the sanctuary began in the 16th century after his death and was continuously expanded. It is an elaborate labyrinth of inner courtyards, mosques, libraries, and tombs, decorated with refined tile mosaics, gilded wood, and complex calligraphy. A special highlight is the Porcelain House (Chini Khaneh), designed by Shah Abbas I to house precious Chinese gifts.
