Tiszakurt Arboretum (Hungary)

Weather…

The Tiszakürt Arboretum is a prominent botanical garden located on the left bank of the Tisza River in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County. Its history dates back to the 1880s when members of the Bolza family, specifically József and Péter Bolza, began planting exotic and native tree species in a former floodplain forest. Today, the garden spans approximately 60 hectares and is home to over 1000 different woody plant species. Among its most valuable specimens are giant plane trees, swamp cynpresses, and an extensive collection of conifers. The arboretum's design masterfully combines the natural riverine environment with the ordered beauty of a landscape garden. In recent decades, the facility has undergone significant renovations, including the addition of new educational trails and lookout points overlooking the Tisza. It serves as a center for scientific research and biodiversity conservation while remaining a popular destination for nature lovers. The spring azalea bloom and the autumn coloring of the swamp cynpresses are particularly spectacular. The arboretum has been a nationally protected nature area since 1971.
