The Hortobágy-Berettyó is an artificially regulated watercourse in Eastern Hungary, serving as a key component of the Great Plain's irrigation and drainage system. Stretching approximately 167 kilometers, it connects the Hortobágy region with the Berettyó River and eventually empties into the Körös River. The current channel is the result of extensive hydro-engineering works that began in the 19th century to drain the vast marshlands and create arable land for agriculture.
