Törökszentmiklós is the third most populous town in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County, located on the western edge of the Nagykunság region in the Great Hungarian Plain. First documented in the late 14th century, the town's history is deeply intertwined with the agricultural development of the Alföld region. After being depopulated during the Ottoman occupation, it was resettled in the 18th century as the estate of the Almásy family, eventually growing into a significant market town. Its most impressive architectural landmark is the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, a neo-Gothic twin-towered masterpiece completed in 1902, which stands as one of the largest religious buildings in the Great Plain. The neoclassical Almásy Mansion and its surrounding English park further reflect the town's aristocratic heritage. Economically, Törökszentmiklós has traditionally relied on food processing and agricultural machinery manufacturing, remaining a vital center for farming and land management today. The town also features a popular thermal spa, offering medicinal waters rich in sodium bicarbonate that serve as a foundation for local health tourism. Strategically positioned along Highway 4 and the main Budapest-Debrecen railway line, the town serves as a key regional transportation hub while maintaining a lively community life through its local museums, libraries, and traditional Miklós-day celebrations.
