Pannonhalma Archabbey (Hungary)

Weather…

Pannonhalma Archabbey is one of Hungary's oldest historical monuments and a lively spiritual center of the Benedictine Order. Founded in 996 by Prince Géza, it received its founding charter from King Stephen I in 1002. The abbey's architecture blends styles from Romanesque to Neoclassical, with the 13th-century basilica and cloister being particularly noteworthy. Its library houses over 400,000 volumes, including the founding charter of Tihany Abbey, which contains the earliest written fragments of the Hungarian language. A UNESCO World Heritage site since 1996, the complex includes the monastery, a secondary school, an arboretum, and a renowned winery. Pannonhalma remains a unique site where religion, education, science, and winemaking have coexisted for more than a millennium.
