The Repce River is a transboundary waterway originating in the Bucklige Welt region of Austria, where it is known as the Rabnitz. It enters Hungarian territory near the town of Buk and flows through Vas and Gyor-Moson-Sopron counties, covering a total distance of approximately 120 kilometers. Its lower reach has been integrated into the Hansag drainage system, with its waters now channeled via artificial canals toward the Raba River. Historically, the Repce played a vital role in feeding Lake Ferto (Neusiedler See) before being separated from it during major river regulation works. The upper Hungarian section of the river is rich in natural heritage, lined with protected alder groves and marshy meadows that provide habitats for various rare plant species. Notable settlements along its banks include Buk, internationally famous for its thermal spas, and Repcelak, known for its industrial carbon dioxide production. The river continues to be a defining feature of the Kisalfold landscape, acting as a crucial ecological corridor.
