🍽 Food
Best experienced cooked over an open fire in a cauldron (bogrács) at one of the famous roadside csárdas.
Look for rustic local restaurants serving hearty roast chicken with homemade noodles or potatoes.
A rich, rum-infused sponge cake and chocolate dessert that is the first-rate finish to a meal at a csárda.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
Keep an eye out for small roadside stalls or farm shops selling fresh, homemade preserves.
Often sold at the larger csárda gift shops, excellent if you are looking for local pottery or leather goods.
Drive a few minutes away from the main road to experience the vast, silent horizon of the Hungarian Great Plain.

Lajosmizse is a city in the northern part of Bács-Kiskun County, located between the Danube and Tisza rivers along the M5 motorway, between Kecskemét and Budapest. The settlement's history is closely intertwined with the settlement of the Cumans, and its name preserves the memory of two medieval villages, Lajos and Mizse. After its destruction during the Ottoman occupation, the area functioned as grazing land, and permanent resettlement began only in the 19th century. Today, Lajosmizse is best known for its equestrian tourism and outstanding gastronomy, with the Gerébi Mansion and local inns enjoying national fame. The city is a characteristic Kiskunság settlement with an extensive farmstead world (tanyavilág), where agriculture still plays a defining role. The Saint Louis Church in the city center was built in the early 20th century, defining the townscape. Annually held gastronomic and equestrian festivals are important cultural events in the region. Lajosmizse is considered the 'Gateway to Kiskunság', offering visitors an authentic experience of the Alföld lifestyle.
