Albertirsa is a town in Pest County, established in 1950 through the unification of two historically separate villages, Alberti and Irsa. The town is situated in the photogenic Gerje stream valley and is notably the birthplace of Sámuel Tessedik, a celebrated 18th-century Lutheran pastor and agronomist who founded the first agricultural school in Hungary. The history of Alberti is deeply intertwined with Slovak settlers who arrived in the 1700s, bringing a strong Lutheran tradition that remains evident in the town's social fabric and its grand Lutheran church. Irsa, on the other hand, retained a more predominantly Hungarian Catholic identity, represented by its beautiful Baroque Catholic church. A major regional draw is the Albertirsa Thermal Bath, which utilizes local thermal springs for health and recreation. The economy traditionally relies on agriculture, particularly fruit growing and viticulture, benefiting from the region's favorable microclimate. As a significant stop on the Budapest-Szolnok railway line, Albertirsa has grown into a popular residential area for commuters, while its annual cultural festivals continue to celebrate the unique heritage of its constituent villages.
