Grábóc Monastery (Hungary)

Weather…

The Serbian Orthodox Monastery of Grábóc is a unique spiritual and architectural gem located in Tolna County. It was founded in 1585 by monks fleeing Ottoman expansion from the Dragović Monastery in Dalmatia. Over the centuries, the monastery evolved into a vital cultural and intellectual center for Serbs living in Hungary. The current magnificent Baroque church was constructed between 1736 and 1738, housing an extraordinary iconostasis that stands as a masterpiece of Orthodox sacred art. Tucked away in a secluded valley, the complex exudes a mystical atmosphere, faithfully preserving the traditions of monastic life. Despite the dwindling number of Orthodox faithful in the region, Grábóc remains a significant pilgrimage site and a testament to Hungary's multicultural history, where visitors can admire intricate frescoes and a historical library.
