Villány Wine Region (Hungary)

Weather…

The Villány wine region is Hungary's southernmost and one of its most advanced viticultural areas, situated on the southern slopes of the Villány Mountains. Thanks to Mediterranean climatic influences, the region enjoys the highest number of sunny hours in the country, good for producing full-bodied red wines. The region's flagship product is "Villányi Franc," made from Cabernet Franc, which has gained international acclaim for the area. Viticultural traditions date back to the Roman era, confirmed by archaeological finds such as grape seeds discovered in local Roman graves. Villány was the first town in Hungary to establish an organized wine route in 1994, connecting wineries and hospitality venues. The architectural heritage of the wine cellars, such as the protected cellar rows in Palkonya and Villánykövesd, defines the cultural identity of the landscape.
