Shota Rustaveli Peak is a formidable mountain in the central Greater Caucasus in Georgia, named after the renowned 12th-century Georgian national poet. Standing at 4860 meters, it is one of the most prominent peaks in the region, located on the international border between Georgia and Russia. It forms part of the Bezengi Wall, a massive subrange stretching nearly 12 kilometers and containing some of the highest summits in the Caucasus. Geologically, the peak is primarily composed of granite and crystalline schists, resulting in its sharp ridges and vertical faces. Climbing Shota Rustaveli Peak is technically demanding and requires advanced mountaineering skills, particularly for navigating ice and mixed terrain. Its strategic position provides spectacular panoramas of the highest Caucasian giants, including Mount Elbrus and Dykh-Tau. The peak's name reflects the strong cultural bond between Georgia's natural landmarks and its literary heritage. The surrounding area is also famous for hosting some of the largest glaciers in the Caucasus mountain system.
