A fragrant stroll through the famous Saverne Rose Garden with expert commentary on the various species.
A gentle reading session designed specifically for the youngest book lovers in Saverne.
Poised on the vital passage connecting the Alsace plain to the Lorraine plateau, Saverne is famously marked by the imposing Château des Rohan. Often referred to as the Versailles of Alsace, this majestic 18th-century palace, with its 140-meter neo-classical pink sandstone facade, dominates the town center and banks of the Marne-Rhine Canal. The canal itself infuses the town with a lively maritime atmosphere, complete with a busy marina where pleasure boats dock near the historic center. A short walk from the palace leads to the Roseraie, a superb botanical garden boasting over 8,500 rose bushes of 500 varieties, making it a fragrant summer destination. The town's emblem is the unicorn, which appears on local crests and craft breweries. Overlooking the valley from a rocky spur is the ruined Château du Haut-Barr, accessible by a short drive or an invigorating hike. Known as the Eye of Alsace, it features a dramatic sandstone bridge between peaks and provides sweeping views all the way to the spire of Strasbourg Cathedral on clear days.
