Sausheim is a significant Alsatian commune, distinguished by its exceptional strategic location near the tri-border area of France, Germany, and Switzerland. Geographically, it is situated in the Rhine Plain, directly northeast of Mulhouse. The history of Sausheim is deeply linked to the industrial boom of the 19th and 20th centuries, with the arrival of major companies like Peugeot playing a pivotal role in the town's development. Today, Sausheim serves as an essential economic driver for the Grand Est region, notably through the Ile Napoléon industrial zone and its position at the intersection of the A35 and A36 motorways. Despite its strong industrial presence, the town center has managed to retain its traditional Alsatian charm. Cultural life is enriched by the ED&N center (Espace Dollfus & Noack), which hosts major regional performances and events. The surrounding area also features green spaces like the Hardt forest, providing a peaceful contrast to the bustling activity of the metropolitan area.
