Habsheim is a town rich in history in the Haut-Rhin department of Alsace, located south of Mulhouse. Part of the Sundgau region, it was historically closely linked to the Habsburg dynasty, as suggested by its name. The town's landmark is the Saint-Martin Church, a masterpiece of Baroque architecture built in the 18th century on the site of an older place of worship. Its magnificent interior testifies to the region's cultural wealth. Habsheim also holds significant aviation history: the Mulhouse-Habsheim airfield was one of France's first, inaugurated in 1909. Unfortunately, the town's name is also internationally known for the Air France flight tragedy during an airshow in 1988. Today, Habsheim is a prosperous and well-maintained residential community that cherishes its Alsatian traditions with typical timber-framed houses. Its position between the Rhine plain and the Sundgau hills makes it an attractive residential location for commuters to Mulhouse or Basel. The town maintains an active local life with numerous markets and cultural events.
