A day dedicated to community engagement and collective action in Guebwiller.
Guebwiller is a historic town in the Haut-Rhin department of Alsace, set at the foot of the Vosges Mountains and at the entrance of the Florival Valley. Its origins are deeply rooted in its status as the administrative seat of the powerful Murbach Abbey during the Middle Ages. The townscape is unique for featuring three significant churches: the Romanesque Saint-Léger, the Gothic Dominican church, and the massive neoclassical Notre-Dame. During the Industrial Revolution, Guebwiller emerged as a powerhouse of the textile and mechanical industries, which left a lasting architectural legacy of grand villas and industrial heritage sites. Wine production remains a cornerstone of the local economy, with the surrounding hillsides producing prestigious Alsace Grand Cru wines. Its location near the Grand Ballon, the highest peak in the Vosges, makes it a strategic base for mountain tourism and hiking. Today, Guebwiller maintains a bustling cultural life and a strong regional identity, blending its industrial past with a reputation for fine viticulture and scenic beauty.
