Sana Peak (Finland)

Weather…

Saana (Sana Peak), located in northwestern Finland, dominates the landscape near the village of Kilpisjärvi in the municipality of Enontekiö with its distinctive, asymmetrical silhouette. Rising 1,029 meters above sea level, it is one of the highest fells in the country and is part of the Scandinavian mountain range. Geologically, Saana consists of Cambrian sedimentary rocks resting on much older Precambrian basement rock, which is a geological rarity in Finland. To the indigenous Sami people, Saana has been a sacred mountain for centuries, surrounded by numerous myths and legendary tales. The area is designated as a Natura 2000 protected site, as it hosts rare arctic and alpine plant species adapted to the region's extreme climatic conditions. Hikers value the steep ascent for the expansive panoramic views it has over the borders of Finland, Norway, and Sweden.
