Pyhä-Luosto National Park (Finland)

Weather…

The Pyhä-Luosto National Park in Finnish Lapland was established in 2005 by merging Finland's oldest national park, Pyhä (founded in 1938), with the neighboring Luosto area. It encompasses Finland's southernmost fell chain, which is home to a geological history dating back approximately two billion years. The landscape is characterized by rugged peaks like Noitatunturi, deep ravines such as Isokuru, the deepest gorge in Finland, and ancient pine forests. The park holds deep cultural significance for the Sámi people, for whom sites like the 'sacrificial gorge' were once sacred places. Hikers can explore the unique geology and flora on a well-developed network of trails, while in winter, the region is a popular destination for skiing and snowshoeing. A particular highlight is the Lampivaara Amethyst Mine, located within the park boundaries. The arctic nature here provides a habitat for reindeer, golden eagles, and numerous rare plant species, making the park a paradise for nature photographers and those seeking tranquility.
