Kistastunturi is a remote fell in the wilderness of North Lapland, located near the border between the Inari and Utsjoki municipalities. This region is part of the Muotkatunturi Wilderness Area, one of the most pristine parts of Finland, featuring almost no marked trails. Kistastunturi is characterized by its barren, rocky landscape, shaped by arctic winds and extreme freeze-thaw cycles. Vegetation is limited to low-growing shrubs and lichens capable of enduring harsh winter conditions. Historically, the area has been utilized for millennia by the Sámi people for hunting and reindeer husbandry, with the fell often serving as a vital navigational landmark. The geology consists of ancient gneisses and granites, which are among the oldest rock formations in Europe. For experienced hikers, Kistastunturi provides the chance to experience the absolute solitude of the arctic tundra, far removed from modern civilization.
