We'a, also spelled Oueah, is a small town in the Arta Region of southern Djibouti. It is strategically located along National Route 1, a crucial transportation artery that connects Djibouti City with Ali Sabieh and the Ethiopian border. This position makes it a local hub for trade and transport. The town lies on the edge of the Grand Bara desert, forming a transition between the extremely arid plain and the slightly more fertile areas further south. The population is mainly composed of members of the Issa people. We'a serves as an administrative center for the surrounding rural population, providing basic services such as a school, a small clinic, and a market. The town's economy is driven by commerce, transportation, and the support of local pastoralist communities. Despite its small size, We'a plays a significant role in the regional infrastructure, linking the capital to the country's southern regions.
