Daoudaouya is a small village in the Dikhil Region of southern Djibouti. It is located in a remote and arid area characterized by a hot desert climate. The settlement is a typical example of a rural community in the region, whose existence is closely tied to the availability of water sources, such as wells. The population, primarily consisting of ethnic Issa Somalis, mainly subsists on nomadic pastoralism. They move with their herds of goats, sheep, and camels across the barren landscape in search of sparse vegetation and water. Daoudaouya serves as an important social gathering point and watering hole for these nomadic communities. The infrastructure is very basic, consisting of traditional, portable huts known as 'agal' and a few more permanent structures. The village is connected to other settlements like Kouta Bouyya via unpaved tracks. The extreme aridity and high temperatures present constant challenges for the inhabitants, making survival in this region difficult.
