Damerjog is a small village in the Arta Region of southeastern Djibouti, located in close proximity to the border with Somalia. The settlement is strategically positioned along the main road connecting the capital, Djibouti City, to the border crossing at Loyada. Historically, the area was inhabited by nomadic Afar and Issa clans whose livelihood was based on pastoralism. In recent times, the demography has diversified with the settlement of refugees from neighboring conflict regions. The infrastructure in Damerjog is basic, reflecting its rural character, consisting mainly of traditional dwellings and a few small shops catering to the local community. The government of Djibouti has initiated development plans for the region, including the construction of the Damerjog Livestock Port, which is expected to significantly enhance the area's economic importance. This project aims to formalize the livestock export trade and establish Djibouti as a major commercial hub in the Horn of Africa, directly impacting Damerjog.
