Nykøbing Falster, often called simply Nykøbing F, is the largest town on the island of Falster in southeastern Denmark. The town is beautifully situated on the island's west coast, straddling the Guldborgsund strait to the neighbouring island of Lolland, connected by the impressive Frederick IX Bridge. The town is a vital commercial and cultural hub for the region. Its history dates back to medieval times, and visitors can explore historic gems like 'Czarens Hus' (the Tsar's House) from 1690, where Tsar Peter the Great once stayed, and the Gothic Abbey Church, part of a former Franciscan monastery. For culture enthusiasts, the Medieval Centre (Middelaldercentret) provides an authentic reconstruction of a Danish market town from around 1400, featuring living history, jousting tournaments, and workshops. Gastronomically, the town gives a variety of restaurants serving Danish and international cuisine. Nykøbing Falster is a major transport node with ferry connections to Germany and good train links to Copenhagen. The summer months are the best time to visit to enjoy the waterfront, the nearby beaches, and the town's bustling atmosphere.
The most pleasant time to visit is Jun–Aug.
