Maribo Cathedral (Denmark)

Weather…

Maribo Cathedral, located on the island of Lolland, was originally the abbey church of a prominent Bridgettine monastery founded in the early 15th century. The church is built in the Brick Gothic style and is characterized by its austere yet monumental hall-like architecture. Following the Reformation, the monastery was dissolved, but the church survived and has served as the cathedral for the Diocese of Lolland-Falster since 1803. Inside, the cathedral houses notable artistic treasures, including a Late Renaissance altarpiece and an elaborately decorated baptismal font. Situated idyllically on the shores of Lake Søndersø, the cathedral is deeply entwined with the history of Maribo, which grew around the original abbey. It is also well-known as the burial place of Leonora Christina Ulfeldt, a famous 17th-century Danish princess.
