Kolín is located in the Central Bohemian Region directly on the Elbe River and serves as a major railway junction and industrial center. Founded in the 13th century, the city features a well-preserved historical core dominated by the majestic St. Bartholomew's Cathedral. In addition to its Christian heritage, Kolín was for centuries a significant hub of Jewish life in Bohemia, evidenced by its old synagogue and historic Jewish cemetery. Industrial growth in the 19th and 20th centuries brought chemical and food processing plants to the city, while today the nearby TPCA automotive plant is a primary employer. Culturally, Kolín is renowned for the annual "Kmochův Kolín" brass music festival, held in honor of the composer František Kmoch. Its location on the Elbe provides ample opportunities for leisure activities and cycling along the river's popular bike paths. Thanks to its excellent transport links to Prague, the city has evolved into an attractive residential area balancing tradition and modernity.
