Vranov Castle (Czech Republic)

Weather…

Vranov nad Dyjí Chateau, dramatically perched on a steep cliff above the Dyje River, is among the most significant Baroque landmarks in Central Europe. Originally established in the 11th century as a royal border fortress protecting against Austrian incursions, it was transformed into a magnificent residence by the Althann family following a devastating fire in the late 17th century. The renowned architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach designed the monumental Ancestors' Hall, a masterpiece of Baroque spatial design featuring ceiling frescoes by Johann Michael Rottmayr. The chateau chapel and residential suites offer a glimpse into the luxurious lifestyle of the 18th and 19th-century nobility. Its seamless integration into the wild natural scenery of the Podyjí National Park is particularly striking. Today, the chateau is world-famous for its extensive collections of Vranov earthenware and its richly decorated ceremonial interiors.
