Lusatian Mountains (Czech Republic)

Weather…

The Lusatian Mountains (Lužické hory) are a mountain range in the north of the Czech Republic, extending into Germany. They are known for their conical volcanic peaks, extensive beech forests, and pretty sandstone rocks. The highest mountain is Luž (Lausche), at 793 meters, right on the German-Czech border. The mountains are a protected landscape area and offer a rich diversity of flora and fauna. Numerous hiking trails lead to the peaks, many of which are crowned with lookout towers or ruins of medieval castles, such as Tolštejn. A special feature of the mountains are the 'ice holes', rock crevices where ice and snow remain all year round. The Lusatian Mountains are also known for their traditional glassblowing and textile industries, traces of which can be found in many of the small villages.
