Teplice is one of the oldest spa towns in Central Europe, positioned at the foothills of the Ore Mountains in northern Bohemia. The healing properties of the local thermal springs were recognized as far back as Roman times, but the town's official status as a health resort began in the 12th century when Queen Judith established a convent here. During the 18th and 19th centuries, Teplice earned the nickname "Little Paris" as it became a fashionable destination for European royalty and famous figures like Beethoven and Goethe. The city's landscape is defined by grand neoclassical spa houses and expansive landscaped parks that form a harmonious architectural complex. Teplice Castle, which now serves as a regional museum, and the nearby Doubravská hora hill with its castle ruins, are key landmarks of the area. Today, Teplice remains a significant center for specialized medical rehabilitation and an animated hub for culture and industry in the Ústí nad Labem region.
