Blansko is known as the 'Gateway to the Moravian Karst' and is picturesquely located in the Svitava River valley north of Brno. The town serves as the good starting point for expeditions into the largest cave system in the Czech Republic, including the famous Punkva Caves and the Macocha Abyss. Historically, Blansko was a center of the iron industry, reflected in a tradition of artistic iron casting that dates back to the 17th century. Blansko Chateau, a Renaissance building, now houses the City Museum with an extensive collection focused on the history of metallurgy and the Moravian Karst. The town also features a unique wooden church from the 17th century, relocated here from Transcarpathia in the 1930s. Today, Blansko combines modern industrial dynamism with the preservation of its precious natural surroundings. It is a key transport hub and features numerous sports and recreational opportunities for both tourists and locals.
