Punkva Caves (Czech Republic)

Weather…

The Punkva Caves are the most visited and longest cave system in the Czech Republic, located in the heart of the Moravian Karst. A visit features a unique experience that includes a walk through massive domes and corridors rich in dripstone formations. The highlight of the tour, however, is the romantic boat ride on the subterranean Punkva River. This takes visitors through the water domes and ends at the bottom of the world-famous Macocha Abyss. The caves were gradually discovered between 1909 and 1933 by the research group of Karel Absolon. The dry part of the cave, the so-called 'Front Dome', impresses with massive stalagmites and stalactites, while the boat ride provides a mystical atmosphere as the boat glides from the darkness into the daylight-flooded basin of the Macocha Abyss.
