Šumperk is located in northern Moravia at the foot of the Jeseníky Mountains and is often referred to as "Little Vienna" due to its grand architecture from the late 19th century. Founded in the 13th century, the city evolved during the 19th century into one of the most prominent textile industry centers within the Habsburg Monarchy. A dark chapter in the town's history is the infamous witch trials between 1679 and 1694, which claimed numerous victims and are now documented in a permanent exhibition. Architecturally, the cityscape is characterized by elegant villas and public buildings in the Historicist style, many designed by renowned Viennese architects. Today, Šumperk serves as the cultural and administrative hub of the region and is a popular starting point for excursions into the nearby Jeseníky range. The city gives a high quality of life with numerous parks, theaters, and a lively pedestrian zone. Visitors appreciate the blend of historical charm and proximity to alpine nature.
The most pleasant time to visit is Jun–Aug.
