Podhum is located in the Jelenje municipality, set in the easy on the eye landscape of the Grobnik Field. The settlement is deeply rooted in history, although unfortunately often associated with the tragic events of WWII when the village was destroyed in 1942. The monumental memorial in Soboli commemorates the victims of Podhum and is a significant site of remembrance in the Kvarner region. Today, Podhum is a peaceful village characterized by its traditional architecture and the hospitality of its residents. Its location at the foot of the Gorski Kotar mountains makes it a convenient starting point for hiking and cycling tours. Especially attractive is the nearby canyon of the Rječina river, whose source lies not far from the village, offering crystal-clear water and beautiful picnic spots. Culturally, the place is connected to the customs of the 'Grobnički dondolaši' (bell ringers), who are an important part of the local carnival heritage. The tranquility of Podhum, paired with its proximity to the urban center of Rijeka, makes it a popular spot for those seeking authentic rural life without sacrificing city conveniences. Local cuisine is based on simple but tasty ingredients from the mountain region.
