Bakarac is hidden at the eastern end of the deep-cut Bakar Bay, not far from the port city of Rijeka. The village's trademark is the 'Tunere', distinctive, slanted wooden ladders protruding high over the water. These were formerly used by fishermen to spot tuna schools swimming into the bay. Today, they are restored monuments of the local fishing tradition. The architecture of Bakarac consists of dense rows of stone houses set along the narrow coastal road.
