Crni Lug is a characterful mountain settlement in Gorski Kotar and serves as the most important starting point for the Risnjak National Park. The village is tucked away in a deep valley, surrounded by dense forests that gave it its name ('Black Grove'). The climate here is alpine, with fresh summers and snowy winters, making the place attractive at any time of year. The 'Leska' educational trail starts from the visitor center in Crni Lug, introducing the park's flora and fauna over 4.2 kilometers. Experienced hikers use the village as a starting point for the ascent to the summit of Veliki Risnjak (1528 m), from which one can see as far as the Adriatic and the Alps on clear days. The region is one of the few places in Europe where lynx, wolf, and bear still live in the wild. The village's architecture is functional and cozy, with many houses offering accommodation for nature tourists. Local inns serve specialties from Gorski Kotar, such as game goulash or forest mushroom dishes. Crni Lug maintains a deep connection with nature and is a prime example of sustainable tourism in Croatia.
