Mavrinci belongs to the municipality of Čavle and is situated in the hinterland of Rijeka, where the coastal region meets the Gorski Kotar mountains. The settlement provides spectacular views of the Obruč mountain range and the wide Grobnik plain. Historically, the region is closely linked to the Frankopan family, whose castle overlooks the nearby village of Grobnik. For motorsport fans, Mavrinci is well-known due to the proximity of the Automotodrom Grobnik. International motorcycle and car races, as well as training sessions, take place here. Besides motorsports, the area is also known for the Grobnik sport airport, used for sports aviation and skydiving. The surroundings of Mavrinci are characterized by a karst landscape and small forests, well-suited for mountain biking and hiking. Local gastronomy reflects the location: a mix of coastal cuisine and hearty dishes from the hinterland, such as game meat or the famous potato polenta (palenta kompirica). Thanks to the highway connection, Rijeka and the sea can be reached in just a few minutes.
