💡 Tips
- The best way to experience the Kornati is by boat. Join an organized tour from Zadar or Murter, or charter a private boat.
- A valid ticket is required for the National Park. It's cheaper to buy it in advance from official sellers than from ticket boats inside the park.
- There are no permanent settlements or fresh water sources. Bring plenty of water and supplies for your trip.
- The 'crowns' (klifovi) - dramatic cliffs facing the open sea - are a must-see. The most famous ones are on Klobučar and Mana islands.
- Anchoring is only allowed in specific, designated bays. Check the park rules before you drop anchor.
🍽 Food
Try the lamb that grazes on the islands, giving it a unique salty flavour. Served in the seasonal 'konobas' within the park.
Enjoy the catch of the day at a waterfront restaurant in one of the bays like Vrulje or on Levrnaka island.
A simple but delicious starter served in almost every tavern in the archipelago.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
There are virtually no shopping opportunities within the National Park. Buy all necessities before you depart from the mainland.
Some taverns might sell their own olive oil or local brandy. Just ask the host.
Visit the island of Levrnaka and its sandy Lojena beach, especially in the late afternoon after most tour boats have left.
Hike to the highest peak in the Kornati, Metlina on Kornat island, for a wide-open view in complete solitude.
If chartering a boat, ask the skipper to find a quiet, secluded cove for you to swim and snorkel in.
Water temperature…
Kornati National Park comprises the densest archipelago in the Mediterranean, with 89 islands and islets scattered across the Adriatic. The landscape is defined by white karst rock contrasting with deep blue waters, creating a lunar appearance. Since the islands are largely uninhabited, it is a haven for sailors seeking solitude and untouched nature. The most striking features are the 'crowns', massive vertical cliffs facing the open sea, reaching heights of 80 meters. Historically, the land was owned by residents of Murter who used the islands for sheep grazing and olive groves. There are no large-scale tourist facilities here; instead, visitors stay in 'Robinson-style' cottages or visit seasonal konobas serving fresh seafood. The entire area has been protected since 1980 to preserve its fragile terrestrial and marine ecosystems. Daily boat tours depart from Murter, Zadar, and Šibenik. While diving requires special permits, snorkeling is highly recommended to see the bustling marine life. The best time to visit is during the sailing season from May to September, when the weather is stable and the sea is warm.
