Vrgada is a small island in the archipelago off Pakoštane and Biograd na Moru. It is often called the 'island of peace' as no cars are allowed, creating a uniquely relaxed atmosphere. The island is characterized by reddish sandstone, giving the beaches their characteristic golden color, which is why it is also known as the 'Golden Island'. The village of Vrgada is located on the northeast coast and is a prime example of a traditional Dalmatian fishing settlement with narrow streets and stone houses. On the hill above the village are the remains of a medieval fortress, offering a panoramic view of the Kornati archipelago and the mainland. The dense pine forests often reach right down to the beaches, providing natural shade. The island is a paradise for swimmers and snorkelers, as the sea here is crystal clear and rich in marine life.
