Zlarin is located just a few nautical miles from Šibenik and is famously known as the coral island. Since the 15th century, residents have been dedicated to processing red corals, an art that can be admired today in the local museum. As no cars are allowed on the island, an extraordinary peace prevails here, attracting hikers and sailors alike. The highest point is Klepac at 169 meters, offering a vast view over the Adriatic Sea. The island's architecture is characterized by typical Dalmatian stone houses and narrow alleys. The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption from the 18th century is a central cultural landmark. During the summer months, traditional festivals take place where residents wear folk costumes and celebrate the history of coral harvesting. The beaches are predominantly pebble and rock, offering crystal-clear water handy for snorkeling and diving. Culinary-wise, Zlarin has fresh fish and local olive oils in small konobas by the harbor. Access is via regular ferry from Šibenik or Vodice. For visitors, it is a place of deceleration where time seems to have stood still.
