Brijuni National Park, a group of 14 islands off the coast of Istria, is an extraordinary place where pristine nature, rich history, and a touch of glamour merge. The largest island, Veliki Brijun, is open to the public and can be explored by bicycle, electric car, or a tourist train. The islands were once the private summer residence of Yugoslavian president Tito, who hosted world leaders here. A legacy of that era is the safari park, home to exotic animals like zebras, llamas, and an elephant, which were gifts to Tito. Beyond its modern history, Brijuni also features over 200 dinosaur footprints preserved in its rocky shores, as well as the remains of Roman villas and a medieval Templar fortress. The meticulously manicured meadows, ancient oak forests, and the tranquil atmosphere create a sense of exclusive seclusion. A visit to Brijuni is like a journey through different eras, all set within an idyllic island landscape that is truly one of a kind.
