Buje perches majestically on a hill in northwestern Istria and is often called the sentinel of Istria due to its strategic location. The old town is a labyrinth of cobbled alleys leading to two distinctive bell towers: that of St. Servulus Church from the 16th century and the tower of St. Mary Church. From the town walls, there is a panoramic panoramic view over terraced vineyards and olive groves stretching to the Adriatic Sea. The region around Buje is considered one of Istria's finest wine-growing areas, famous for the Malvazija grape variety. Every September, the town hosts a wine festival that attracts visitors from across the region. Its cultural identity is strongly Italian-influenced, reflected in bilingual signs and the local way of life.
