Murter is located in the northwest of the island and is its cultural and administrative center. The history of the town is deeply rooted in the sea, which can be seen in the remains of the ancient Roman settlement Colentum at the foot of Gradina hill. The residents of Murter are considered the 'masters of the Kornati' because they historically own over 80% of the archipelago, making Murter the most important gateway for excursions to the National Park. Traditional wooden shipbuilding has a special significance here, particularly the construction of the 'Gajeta', a multi-purpose boat now protected as a cultural asset. The town features a lively mix of authentic Dalmatian daily life and modern tourism. Slanica beach is one of the few sandy beaches in the region and attracts families with its shallow, crystal-clear water. From the Church of St. Roch, there is a panoramic view over the town and the countless offshore islands, which is especially unforgettable at sunset.
