The Amran Cement Plant, located in the Amran Governorate north of Sana'a, is one of the largest and most critical industrial facilities in Yemen. Established in the late 1970s with international technical assistance from Japan and the Soviet Union, it officially began operations in 1982. The plant is owned by the state-run Yemen Corporation for Cement Industry and Marketing and plays an indispensable role in the reconstruction and development of the national infrastructure. With a production capacity exceeding one million tons of cement per year, it covers a significant portion of the demand in the northern highlands. The facility utilizes local limestone deposits and provides employment for thousands of people in the region. Despite sustaining damage from airstrikes in 2015, production has been restarted multiple times, highlighting the plant's importance as an industrial backbone for the country's construction sector.

What is this place?
The Amran cement plant in Yemen is one of the largest cement production facilities in the country, supplying building materials to the region. It plays a key role in providing cement for Yemen's construction industry.
Visiting
The plant grounds are usually not open to the public for security reasons. From the nearby main road, however, one can see the large production buildings and chimneys.
Where to view it
The best spot for an exterior view is the road from Amran towards Sana'a, with a hill on the east side. From there one has a wide view over the entire cement plant and its quarries.

The plant mainly produces cement clinker and various cement grades for construction. Cement bags are commonly sold in markets in Amran and the surrounding area.
