Tisno owes its name to the geographical feature of a mere 38-meter-wide strait separating the island of Murter from the mainland. The town is unique as it spans both shores, connected by a bascule bridge originally built in 1832, which opens several times a day for ships. Historically, the town was settled in 1548 by refugees fleeing the Ottomans, reflected in its dense, defensive architecture. The old town on the island side impresses with narrow alleys and grand villas of Italian families who settled here in the 18th century. Today, Tisno is world-famous in the electronic music scene, as 'The Garden Resort' hosts internationally renowned music festivals. Away from the parties, Tisno is a spiritual place with the Shrine of Our Lady of Loreto on Broćica hill. The combination of traditional Dalmatian lifestyle, a touch of eccentricity through its famous donkey races, and a modern festival vibe makes Tisno one of the most dynamic spots in the Šibenik region.
