Vrana Lake, situated near Biograd na Moru, is the largest natural lake in Croatia, covering an area of approximately 30.2 square kilometers. Established as a nature park in 1999, it is a significant wetland habitat that serves as an ornithological reserve for over 250 bird species. Geologically, it is a cryptodepression, meaning the lake's surface is above sea level while its deepest parts lie below it. The brackish water of the lake results from underground karst channels connected to the Adriatic Sea, supporting both freshwater and marine fish species. Historical landmarks like the 17th-century Maškovića Han, an Ottoman caravanserai, are located in the lake's immediate vicinity. Today, the park is a crucial ecological corridor and a favored destination for birdwatching and recreational fishing activities.
