Malinska is one of the most popular tourist centers on Krk Island, tucked away deep within the sheltered Dubašnica Bay. The town's history is closely tied to the sea and the timber trade; in the 19th century, it served as a vital port for shipping wood harvested from the island's lush interior. The tourism boom began in the early 20th century when the Austro-Hungarian nobility discovered the area's exceptionally mild climate and diverse vegetation. To the north of the town lie the ruins of the infamous Haludovo hotel complex, which was a symbol of international luxury in the 1970s but now stands as a hauntingly beautiful monument to past opulence. Today, Malinska welcomes visitors with modern seaside promenades, excellent seafood restaurants, and numerous well-kept pebble beaches. The town is also a great base for exploring the surrounding olive groves and oak forests, while the nearby Franciscan monastery in Porat preserves the region's medieval Glagolitic heritage and cultural identity.
